Wash your hands first. Work the bar into a lather in clean hands rather than rubbing it directly on the tattoo. Wash the area with your fingertips — no cloths, sponges or scrubbing. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean paper towel.
Follow with Aftercare Balm on clean, dry skin. Use twice daily through the healing period.
Why not use my normal soap?
A fresh tattoo is an open wound. Everyday body washes and hand soaps carry dyes, strong surfactants and heavy fragrance loads that can irritate broken skin. This bar uses a glycerin base intended for skin that is healing.
When do I start using it?
At the first wash after your session, once your artist tells you to remove the initial wrap. That is usually a few hours later, or the next morning if you were sent home in a protective film.
How long does a 15g bar last?
Through a typical healing period for one piece, washing twice a day. Larger work, or several tattoos healing at once, will get through it faster.
Should I rub the bar straight onto the tattoo?
No. Lather it in your hands first and apply the lather with your fingertips. Putting the bar directly on a healing tattoo drags at the surface and moves bacteria from the bar onto an open wound.
Bar or the Foam Cleanser — which should I pick?
They do the same job at the same stage; the difference is format. The pump bottle of Aftercare Foam Cleanser is more convenient at home. The bar is smaller, cheaper and travels without a liquids restriction. Plenty of people keep one of each.
It contains fragrance — is that a problem on a healing tattoo?
Parfum is present in the formulation. If you have sensitive skin or a known fragrance allergy, patch test on unbroken skin at least 24 hours before your session, or choose the Foam Cleanser instead.
